Riddle Missing Dollar
Best answer to the person who can answer this riddle correctly!?
Three men went to a motel for the night. It cost 30 dollars to stay, so each man paid 10 dollars each. Then they went to bed.
But later on in the night the motel manager realized he had overcharged the men by 5 dollars. They were supposed to pay 25 dollars but they paid 30. So he sent the bellman to return the 5 dollars to the three men.
But the bellman thought it would be pretty hard to divide 5 dollars equally among three men, so he did them a “favor” and took 2 dollars from the five, and returned the remaining 3 dollars to the three men, one dollar back to each man.
Now each man paid 9 dollars instead of 10, because of the dollar returned to them. 9 x 10=27 dollars. Add the two dollars stolen by the bellman and you have 29 dollars. But the night started with 30 dollars!
WHERE IS THE MISSING DOLLAR?
Oops! It’s 9×3=27, not 9×10, my mistake as some of you noticed.
The facts in this riddle are clear: There is an initial $30 charge. It should have been $25, so $5 must be returned and accounted for. $3 is given to the 3 friends, $2 is kept by the bellhop – there you have the $5. The trick to this riddle is that the addition and subtraction are done at the wrong times to misdirect your thinking – and quite successfully for most. Each of the 3 friends did indeed pay $9, not $10, and as far as the friends are concerned, they paid $27 for the night. But we know that the clerk will tell us that they were charged only $25 and when you add the $3 returned with the $2 kept by the bellhop, you come up with $30.
